Tiebreakers  (Official FIBA Basketball Rules, 2004)

These principles can be overridden by the regulations of a particular competition, but in the absence of any competition regulations concerning tiebreakers, the following should always apply.

 

A Tie Between 2 Teams

A Tie Between MORE than 2 Teams

  • These tiebreakers must be applied in the following order

  • If the tie is reduced to 3 (or more) teams, begin again here to separate those teams

  • If the tie is reduced to 2 teams, use the 2 team tiebreak method to the left

1.  Head-to-head results of the games between those two teams

2.  Goal average in the results of the games between those two teams

3.  Goal average in the results of all the games involving those

two teams in the division/group

 Note:-    Goal Average = Points Scored divided by Points conceded, thus:-

(Applies ONLY to a 3 way tie in a 3 team division/group)

 Scored 133pts, Conceded 100pts, Goal Average = 1.330  4.  Points scored in the results of all the games involving those teams in the division/group
